Sofia University – First in Bulgaria and 681st in the World
Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” is the leading institution for higher education in Bulgaria according to the national ranking of universities, prepared by the European research organization Webometrics.
In the list Sofia University ranks 681st among 20, 000 universties from all over the world. The ranking is based on criteria such as number of students and teachers and number of scientific publications.
Among the leading universities in Bulgaria are also Technical University of Sofia (taking second position), University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy Sofia (third), New Bulgarian University (fourth) and Medical University of Sofia (fifth). The American University in Bulgaria ranks sixth in Bulgaria and 3222nd in the world.
The ranking includes only 13 Bulgarian universities among which is not the University of National and World Economy.
The top places in the world according to Webometrics are occupied by the American universities Harvard, MIT and Stanford.
